Our HIFU technology can penetrate through multiple layers of skin. In particular, HIFU can reach the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) layer, which is located at a depth of around 4.5mm beneath the dermis (3.0mm) and epidermis (1.5mm). Therefore, HIFU not only tightens layers of the skin, but also the muscle layer, producing longer-lasting and more effective results.

Our HIFU technology can penetrate depths of up to 16.0mm. This ensures that we can tighten skin on areas of the body as well as the face. Furthermore, these depths mean that HIFU can also be used to target and reduce fat cells, helping you get the most out of the treatment.

Before undergoing the HIFU Facelift or Body Tightening, we invite you to come into our Harley Ultrasound clinic for a consultation. This will allow our trained therapists to assess the area and determine which depths of HIFU will be most appropriate for giving you the best results. As well as this, our therapists will demonstrate the equipment, so you can accurately understand how it works.

In regards to the HIFU Facelift, the depths of 1.5mm, 3.0mm and 4.5mm are used. This is because the skin on the face is generally much thinner than other areas of the body, and has a much higher sensitivity.

For Body Tightening, our therapists may select a range of depths of HIFU, though this is of course entirely dependent on the areas of concern. For instance, if you have excess fat in an area, you may benefit from HIFU that penetrates deeper within the skin. By having such a range of HIFU cartridges, we can tailor the treatment to you to ensure you get the results you want.

First, the area is cleansed and any make-up or skincare products are removed. Our therapists will then draw guidelines onto the area. Do not be alarmed, this is not a sign of inexperience. Rather, it is so that our therapists ensure they cover each area, and avoid any major nerves.

Next, our therapists will apply ultrasound gel. A HIFU Applicator is placed against the skin, which emits the ultrasound beams at the pre-determined depth of the chosen cartridge. The treatment is generally not unpleasant, however, you may feel the thermal energy that is being created by the ultrasound. Any discomfort you experience is likely to depend on the sensitivity of your skin. If you are anxious about feeling uncomfortable, then our therapists can lower the intensity of the ultrasound. You may also take an over the counter medication prior to the treatment.

The treatment duration can vary depending on the area of the body being targeted. For instance, with the HIFU Facelift, you may choose to just treat the face, or you may also want to use the ultrasound on the neck and décolletage. The treatment should not take any longer than 90 minutes.

It is possible for you to notice results straight after the procedure, but remember that results will differ from person to person, and in most cases a few weeks are needed for results to become visible. Within 2 to 3 months you should be able to see the full extent of the results. The treatment reduces signs of ageing such as sagging skin and wrinkles, and makes the skin appear smoother, tighter and healthier.

It is completely normal to notice mild redness and tenderness in the treatment area immediately after the treatment. This is especially the case in regards to the face, where skin is thinner and far more sensitive. On occasion, some of our clients have reported swelling, but again this is a normal reaction to the treatment. Any side effects tend to fade within a few hours.
